So the Germans could work the Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, etc. until they were sick/dead.

Most of the concentration camps were converted to death camps near the end of the war to increase the amount of Jews they could kill per day (which was up to 3,000 at some camps).

Remembering the concentration camps is critical because:

  • The international community must never forget about this genocide and to prevent other large scale forms of genocide.
  • We must remember how evil and murderous a body of people can be against other people.
  • We must never forget the people who were killed or their descendants.
  • We must never forget that all forms of racism and political injustices are wrong and should be abolished.
  • The camps also remind us that freedom is costly and vital. The Jews lost their freedom, their dignity and their lives. The other "undesirables" and political prisoners went through the same thing.
  • We must remember the POWs too. Some were put into those filthy, heinous camps and many killed there. Some were finally transferred to the military POW camps.
  • Failure to learn about the concentration camps will result in our failure to prevent this type of genocide from ever happening again.
  • Six million Jews and five million "undesirables" were murdered in those concentration camps by being killed, starved, exposed to weather and disease and left to die at the end of the war. The Allied Forces found the remaining people and did what they could to save as many as they could. This is an atrocious historical event that should never have been allowed to happen. The German people let it happen. They did know of the camps but dismissed them for many silly reasons, but basically they were biased against the Jews and did not want to risk their own lives to help them.
  • The definition of "Undesirables" is any one considered by Adolf Hitler to be undesirable such as: mentally ill people, physically and genetically deformed people, Slavic people, anti-Nazi people, religious people, homosexuals, Russians or any other people he deemed to be inferior to the Aryan Race (not a real scientific or medically recognized race, only a concept that someone came up with and Hitler latched onto).
