Many people were extremely outraged, because it said slavery was protected by the Constitution.
So all the hopeful plans to allow new territories to vote on the issue were suddenly put in jeopardy.
The wording of the judgment was also offensive to the Abolitionist lobby, with its suggestion that mere slaves had no business suing their owners.

The court stated that Scott was property therefore his owner could move him to any location and he was still property. The fact that the court found slaves as property was a decision that changed the status of slaves. They were no longer human, but the same as a table or horse.
