Because they contained traces of gold found in the kings sea. The kings sea held gold that were missing for centuries and could not be accesses. Th epigeons found the gold but thought it was food and so they ate it. The peigeons pooped it out and the middle aged people around the age of 50 liked the sight of pigeon droppings as it was shiny so they either ate it or took the gold out and sold it so they could buy a house or some food or maybe even some more gold. They also sold their children to the great wolves of american.
