God sent the 10 plagues in Egypt because the Pharaoh wouldn't obey God's message through Moses to let the Israelites leave slavery. Pharaoh said he would after every plague to get rid of them, but changed his mind. After the last plague, involving Pharaoh's son to die, he finally gave in and the Israelites escaped Egypt.

The Bible teaches that God is the perfect judge of man kind. Because he created man, he has the authority to judge and punish them as he sees fit. The Egyptians were wicked in the sight of the Lord because they enslaved his people the Israelites. Again and again God, though Moses, told the Egyptians to let Israel go, but they refused. If they had not been hard hearted then God would not have unleashed the plagues on them.

Moses was the messenger/prophet. God sent the plagues. Pharoah refused to let the children of Israel go free thinking the gods of Egypt would protect them. God sent a plague against each of the 10 gods of the Egyptians - ending with the Pharoah who was considered their god on Earth.
