The Moravians or Unitas Fratrum came from what is now Modern Day Czech-Republic. Although they adopted the name from the area that at that time (1457 - making it the oldest Protestant Religion) Moravia and Bohemia. They split away from the Catholics due to the congregations desire for radicial reformation and as a result persecution of the Roman Catholic Church. Due to persecution they fled to Herrnhut, Germany (built by Nicholas Ludwig von Zinzendorf [1700-1750A.D.]) and became Moravians with the help of the Reformer Jan Hus[1372-1415A.D.] (who was the impetus for the rejection of certain Catholic practices). They then came to the New World and after failing to establish a colony in Georgia in 1735 and then in 1741 they tried again this time successful in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In 1753 the Moravians purchased land in North Carolina and called it Wachovia. Wachovia had a town called Bathabara which is modern-day Winston-Salem and now Bethlehem and Winston-Salem are now the two capitals of the northern and southern provinces, respectively, of the Moravian Church in the USA.
