Yes, the tension between to two major victorious Allied powers led to the countries being natural enemies. The alliance was strained from the beginning with both countries having different political goals in mind for postwar society. Hitler tried to divide the two because he could tell that there was an unnatural alliance between the democracies and the communist state of the Soviet Union. Stalin knew about the atom bomb prior to be being told about it at Potsdam because of his espionage ring in the United States. He did not trust America and therefore resorted to spying on his own ally. After the bombs were dropped on Japan, the Soviet Union needed to feel that they were equal to America in terms of military strength and weaponry. This led to the great nuclear arms buildup and the Cold War.
