The Triangle Shirtwaist Company apparently was only practicing the standard workplace security and anti-theft practices of the time. The tragedy, in which dozens of seamstresses lost their lives, was one of the driving forces behind the adoption of workplace safety legislation and the advancement of the labor union movement.
