shiites in arabic word means follower or partizan and in islamic terms called shīʿat ʿAlī or follower of Ali Ibn Abi-talab which believe that the prophet chose Ali Ibn Abi-talab as his successor after himself .and for the first time the prophet used this term for follower of Ali Ibn Abi-talab in interpretation ot the following verse in tafsir of Al-Durr al-Manthoor :

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ أُوْلَئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ

but those who believe and do good deeds are the best of all creatures(AL-BAYYINA:7)

prophet said to Ali Ibn Abi-talab : you and you follower are the best of all creatures.
