Why when I do a broadband speed test I get 10Mbps but then when i go to download a file it downloads at 200KBps?

this could be the site that you are downloading from some download sites restrict the speeds they allow for each connection
also if you are downloading the file via torrent your isp could be restricting your download for torrents

Internet speed is measured in Mbits not Megabytes. For example, I have a 10Mbps line and I achieve 1.2mB download speed because it's Megabits not Megabytes. 8 bits to the BYTE you do the math.

That is normal. Only 2 pairs of wires are used in LAN connections at 10Mbps or 100Mbps.

yes, that connection is very fast and much more than what people have at their homes. In fact my University has a 10mbps connection. Are you sure you don't mean 10kbps?

You may be confusing two different measurements. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) measures speed in terms of megabits per second (Mbps) whereas most programs measure data transfer speed--either upload or download--in terms of bytes, kilobytes, or megabytes per second (Bps, KBps or KB/s or K/sec, or MB/sec). With TCP/IP, the way to convert between the two is the same as converting from bits to bytes: divide the number of bits by 8. So, in other words, the 10Mbps from your ISP equates to 1.25MBps. Therefore, it sounds like you are getting the speed you should (based on the original format of the question which mentioned both your ISP speed of 10Mbps and your indicated download speed of 1.2MBps).If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me a line. Why would a 10base t network run slow?
it can only run at 10mbps which = 1.25 mega bytes per sec there are 100 and 1000 (gigabit) networks
