The agitator has two parts. One is the bottom agitator and then you have the top agitator that moves the clothes around. If the top part of the agitator is not moving. You probably need to replace the dog ears. A great sight to look this info up is www.repairclinic.com. I have ordered from them before. Good Luck! Karen

What is the difference between an agitator and an impeller in a washing machine?

Top-loaders have two options for swirling the load: an agitator (central spindle), or an impeller (a small bump at the bottom of the bowl). Impellers spin and pulse to turn the washing over, rather than twisting it. Washing machines with impellers tend to be easier to load and unload, but their dirt removal isn't always as good as agitator models.

When the correct volume of water is reached a switch is activated that sends power to the timer which in turn routes power to the proper connections needed to agitate. now when washing power is sent to a agitator control which lifts a plunger that makes the transmission rock back and forth which is calledagitation

How do you get a lost ring out of a washing machine?

I dropped engagement ring in washer and it slid under the agitator .. out of panic, I drained the water and let it go through the spin cycle hoping it would shake it out but it didn't.. so i checked if my machine has a filter, its usually located on the bottom corner of machine.. if not in the filter or like my machine it didnt have a filter then this is what i did.. first do not let it go through another wash cycle.. second turn the main source of water off that supplies water to the washer.. third, unhook the hose connected to washing machine (be prepared for lots of excess water draining out).. step four, turn machine on wash cycle and if ur lucky like I was then the ring will pop right out the drain : )

For persistent issues or if you're uncomfortable dealing with electrical components, it's safest to consult a qualified electrician or appliance repair professional.
