There could be any number of reasons. There could be a problem with your defrag program. There might be a problem with another program that is keeping defrag from working correctly. The Disk Defragmenter Program Service may not be be running.

Try using a free download of either Iobit, Advanced System Care, or Smart Defrag2 from Download.com to keep your PC running smoothly.

Can you have the Windows XP or Windows 7 start menu on Windows 8 instead of the Metro start screen?

In Windows 8 Developers Preview it was possible to just disable the Metro theme with a simple registry edit. And this brought back the Windows 7 start menu. But in Windows 8 Consumer Preview it is no longer possible to disable the Metro theme. And in addition to that the start button or start orb has also been removed. But you can install several third party software's that will bring back both the start orb and Windows XP,Classic Windows 98 or Windows 7 start menu. The most well known software is Classic Shell which puts both the start orb and the Windows XP start menu into Windows 8.The latest version has been updated recently to work on Windows 8. As well as the Windows XP start menu,Classic Shell gives you the choice of other start menus, the Classic start menu or the Windows Vista or Windows 7 start menu. The other software options are Start Menu 7 which works on Windows 8.And puts both the start orb and the Windows 7 start menu in Windows 8. Other options are Vi Start which also puts the start orb and Windows 7 start menu in Windows 8. And Vista start Menu which puts the Windows Vista start menu into Windows 8. But not the start orb,but you can just click on the program short cut on your desktop to bring up the start menu. All the above programs are for Windows Vista and Windows 7 but also work on Windows 8.

Disc defrag won't finish on windows xp?

The very best way to run defrag is to startup your PC in Safe Mode and then run the defrag. Safe Mode is available by rebooting your PC and start tapping your F8 key (I tap it about once a second) until a menu comes up asking how you want to startup. Select the Safe Mode option and enter. ... if you're in the normal mode close all applications that are running then defrag but still the best way is "to run defrag is to startup your PC in Safe Mode..."

Does Windows XP perform any automatic performance tuning?

It can automatically run a defrag on whatever schedule you tell it to. You pick the day and time and it will start defraging at that time by itself.

How do you fix a Windows error that says 'the specified module could not be found'?

Have you tried to do a Defrag of your C:Drive? Go into my computer and right click on the c drive. Then go to properties, click on Tools and then on Defragment now, It may defrag right then or most likely it will tell you the it will defrag the next time you start your computer. That may help the problem. If not it will not hurt. Give it a try... Good Luck

Is there a combo antivirus package that defrags also?

If you have a Windows system, there is already a disk defragmenter installed onto the computer. Just click on the Start button and in the search box enter "disk defrag". Click on the program labeled Disk Defragmenter. To be able to defrag a disk, you need administrator rights.

Why does your OS Windows 98SE get stuck at 2 on defrag and stay there without completing the defrag and how can you get it to complete the defrag?

Run ScanDisk first. If you have disk errors, Defrag will not run. If ScanDisk will not run, install Norton System Works. Run Norton WinDoc, let it repair any Windows errors. Next, run Norton's Disk Doctor (Norton's version of ScanDisk). Once all that runs, reboot your system, run Windows ScanDisk and then Defrag. Always reboot after you run your maintenance programs. Also, make sure you dump your cache (Temporary Internet, Temp, Recent, History & Cookies) before starting your maintenance programs. I struggled with that problem for a long time. I found out that the defragmenter that comes with Windows 98 is not worth the disk space it takes up. However, with Windows ME, the problems had been fixed. So, the best solution I found is to replace the 98 defrag with the ME defrag. This article explains how to do it: http://aroundcny.com/technofile/texts/tec060902.html It works and you'll be amazed at the difference.
