it could be a number of things but the usual causes are the neutral safety switch or an "open" in the starting circuit or simply a bad conection,at battery or starter. Try putting your vehicle in neutral and then try turning it on.if is manual transmission instead of the neutral safety switch it would be the clutch start switch.
the battery is dead
The problem may not be in the starter, but rather the alternator or battery. Your lights and radio may work because it does not require as much power. I asked the question and I have narrowed it done to one of the two possibilities: it is either the ignition switch or the anti theft start fuse under the hood. But thanks for the insight.
the dash and radio lights are supposed to dim when the headlights come on. Make sure you have the brightness of the dash lights turned up as much as possible.
Your battery is dead and you should probably take it to the repair shop and have them put it in for you. Couldn't it be the starter motor? The lights and radio come on, so there must be some juice and the battery.
check the fuse on the wires on your radio, there is a separate wire for the display lights that should be wired to your dash lights
I had a similar problem with a Pontiac some years back. It was a bad dashboard ground. It may not be it, but I would start there.
The lights come on when you start the car. They will not come on if you have the park brake on. Once you release the park brake they will come on immediately.
I found it here, http://maxima.bryanb.com/fog/fogrewire.htmlIt's detailed with lots of pictures along the way. Hope this helps!
I have a 1993 mark 8' while putting in a radio I blow a fuse on the radio replace it and put everything together and nothing come back on.
Computer failure
Because the radio is wired into the headlight circuit instead of the accessory circuit.
IGNITION SWITCH, UR RADIO'S SECONDARY POWER COMES FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH SO WHEN U TURN YOUR CAR OFF THE RADIO AND OTHER ACCESSORIES TURN OFF AS WELL.
