It is probably because he feels you are not a good candidate for that lengthy an operation. At 88 years old, chances of a poor result due to anesthetic complications. Delayed recovery and cognitive dysfunction are higher risk factors for the aged patient and the quality of life pre op. verses the quality of life post op are taken into account.
