Most vehicles with two fuel tanks have two fuel pumps. If the fuel gauge shows the reading in the front tank, the switch is most likely good, and the fuel pump is bad.
You probably have a bad front tank fuel pump or you could have something wrong in the switch valve or selector switch, or even a problem in the wiring to the front fuel pump, but most likely a bad fuel pump.
Each tank has a separate fuel pump. If the front fuel pump has failed the engine will shut off each time you switch to the front tank.

The fuel shutoff switch is below the fuel tank. In order to access the switch, you need to remove the bolt at the rear of the tank and just loosen the hinge bolt at the front of the tank. Raise the tank up to enable your hand to squeeze underneath the tank to reach the switch.
The 1995 BMW 740i fuel pump relay switch can be found on top of the fuel tank. The relay switch will be on the front side of the fuel tank.
The 1990 G20 Chevrolet Van fuel relay switch is located on the front of the fuel tank. The relay switch is next to the fuel pump.
The fuel pump relay switch can be found on the vehicle frame rail. The relay switch will be to the left of the front of the fuel tank.
Probable it is the fuel pump in the front tank. When you change it at the switch listen to see if you can hear the pump working, if not got to remove tank or bed and replace pump.
it is on the dash board by the heater and ac. it says front fuel rear.
Empty fuel from tank. Drop fuel tank. Sender is on inside of tank on front. Float could have pin hole causing false reading.
In the same panel as the heater controls. It's the switch to the far right labeled "front, rear"
