Depending on what vehicle you have, many have a three position switch that will change the mode of the interior light from on when you open a door, to on all the time or to off all the time. Be sure the switch is not on the "on all the time" mode.
it should be the same as the interior light fuse. all of these are together i think.

Interior light comes on by itself. Overhead switch not effective and when it is slid back and forth the light for seatbelt check comes on on the dash. Seatbelts check ok. I get a check seatbelt tone when I slide the overhead switch back and forth. How do I replace interior dome light?
The most likely reason is a burned-out bulb.
Perhaps you turned on the interior lights when you were adjusting the headlights?

With the year, make, and model I would suggest looking for a fuse labeled interior lights.
The interior door switch may be built into the door latch. It is on the 2001 Ford F-150.
A likely cause is a faulty interior light dimming switch. This switch is directly connected to both the dash lights (for dimming), and the dome light (on/off).
