There could be various reasons why your tortoise is not eating. It is winter time for one thing. Do you have a reptile heating lamp on top of his cage to keep the temperature at around 85 degrees during the day and then a night bulb for night time, lowering the temperature down to around 70-72 degrees? Make sure he is getting enough UV rays from the day bulb. They make the bulbs special for reptiles so that they can get the needed UV rays. By simply putting the cage near a window does not give them the needed UV rays from the sun as the UV rays cannot pass through the glass. If you have a nice day where the temp is above 78 then put your tortoise outside to eat the greens out there. Make sure you have him warm enough to eat. If too cold then he will not eat. Make sure you are feeding a good balanced diet, lots of dark greens, such as collards, carrot tops, spinach, alfalfa hay, etc. Lettuce gives very little food value as is mostly water. Feed carrots too, celery tops, etc. Find a Veterinarian who specializes in reptiles and take your tortoise in for a good check up. Bring a small sample of his fecal in too to check for parasites. Make sure your tortoise has access to clean water at all times and keep the cage clean.
