Remove the cap, line up the rotor to a point on the engine and mark it with a white chalk. un plug the wire harness, remove the hold down bolt, remove the rotor, then pull the dist. out. New dist. put rotor on and slide the dist. in and spin the rotor to the same place as marked before.
This is caused by 2 things, 1 ignition control module located on distributor, 2 distributor itself. get repair manuel to show how to take it out and put back in. my 93 tempo is running great except for the motor mount.
Your distributor cap may have moisture on the contacts in the morning, but it dries out in the afternoon, thereby allowing you to start the vehicle later in the day.
To replace the ignition control module on a 1993 Ford Tempo, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the distributor cap and rotor to access the module, which is typically mounted on the side of the distributor. Unscrew the module and disconnect the wiring harness. Install the new module by reversing the steps, ensuring all connections are secure before reassembling the distributor and reconnecting the battery. For a visual reference, please consult a repair manual or online resources, as I can't provide photos.
CHECK TO SEE IF YOU GOT THE FIREING ORDER CORRECT
with a 5 lb hammer. It will come loose.
To loosen the distributor in a 1993 Ford Tempo, first, disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent any electrical issues. Then, remove any components obstructing access to the distributor, such as the air intake hose or ignition wires. Locate the distributor hold-down bolt, usually at the base of the distributor; use a socket or wrench to loosen the bolt. Once loose, you can rotate the distributor slightly for timing adjustments or remove it for replacement.
To take apart the distributor on a 1992 Ford Tempo, first ensure the engine is off and the ignition key is removed. Disconnect the battery and then remove the distributor cap by unscrewing the retaining screws. Next, unplug the wiring harness connected to the ignition module and carefully detach the module from the distributor. Finally, remove the distributor by loosening the hold-down clamp and lifting it out, taking care not to disturb the timing position.
You need a timing light or take out the number 1 spark plug and put your finger over it and wait till it blows your finger off that means the piston is up then put the spark plug back in and distributor and try to start the car. if not then you dont have it on top dead center. you also need the firing order and where the rotor is at on number one....
Need to change the TFI module attached on side of distributor
Take off brake caliper and then hit the rotor with a hammer near the wheel bearing to break the seal between the rotor and axle shaft
