turn the ignition on, leave it on, pop the hood and look on the passenger side fender, for the solenoid, it is an electromagnetic switch atached to the inner fender, it is usually black or grey and it sits on top of the wheel covering. it has 3 or more wires on it. usually with 2 wires on 1 side and 1 wire on the other. there is also a much smaller guage wire in the center- more or less. this smaller wire is the wire that energizes the solenoid as you turn the ignition on. there are 2 large bolts that have nuts holding the wires down tight. these two bolts, now called terminals internally connect together when you start the car. to check if the solenoid is defective, you can use a large guage wire (it may get very hot, very quickly) so i use a large screwdriver to connect (jump) the 2 terminals together while the ignition key is in the on position. this by-passes the switching mechanism and will energize the starter motor, if the car starts your solenoid or ignition switch is faulty, it has been my experience that the solenoid fails most of the time. to trouble shoot the solenoid further, you can connect 12 volts-use a jumper wire from the + or red battery terminal of the car, and connect it to the smaller guage wire on top, if the solenoid engages it would appear that the ignition switch is faulty. but always make certain all terminals are clean, shiny and free of corrosion, as it may just be a poor connection.
my lincoln town car started with not going into park and now it wont go in reverse what is wrong and how do i fix it
Check you battery
Your '01 Lincoln Town car might not shift gears because it is low on transmission fluid or because the transmission is damaged.
1989 ford F250 Fuel Problems, It cranks but wont start
Try replacing your spak plugs. I had the same problem with my 85 Monte Carlo.
Neutral switch?
i replaced the fuel pump and now my theft system wont work
Some cars have a fuel-shutoff switch. In the event of an accident, that will trip. Find out where that is (usually in trunk) and flip it back on.
I have the same problem i say its too old im throwing it away
Try checking your fuel pump.
on the trunk latch theirs a little clip, its stuck down and should be up
The reason a Lincoln Town Car might not start after the intake manifold was replaced could be that the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor was not installed properly after the manifold was replaced. The computer might also need to be reset.
