possibly the glow plug comand is bad.
It should start without it until the temperature gets in near 10 deg F
Your 99 diesel will only start running when the block heater is plugged in because your glow plugs need replaced. The fuel is not reaching a high enough temperature to initiate compression.
Are you in Alaska? What heater can you plug in that is not already connnected. A diesel preheater maybe.
White smoke at start up is due to moisture in the exhaust or on a diesel it can be normal due to the engine being cold.White smoke at start up is due to moisture in the exhaust or on a diesel it can be normal due to the engine being cold.
It won't run without fuel. If it ran dry it may take some time to get to the engine.
It probably won't do either; it would fail during the POST.
Sounds like either the system hasn't been primed sufficiently (there's enough fuel to start, but there is still air in the fuel lines), there is an airlock in the fuel line somewhere, the fuel filter is plugged, the fuel line is plugged, or the fuel pump is malfunctioning.
For a start, see if it has energy, and if all the cables are plugged in correctly. For a start, see if it has energy, and if all the cables are plugged in correctly. For a start, see if it has energy, and if all the cables are plugged in correctly. For a start, see if it has energy, and if all the cables are plugged in correctly.
Hard starting on a diesel is from a lack of fuel or a lack of heat/compression. Air in the fuel lines, plugged fuel filters, and broken electric fuel pumps are the more common hard start issues. Cummins engines use a grid type air preheater. If the hard starting is ONLY in cold weather this is a good place to start.
no diesel
When you first plug in the heater have the hood open and in a few seconds you should be able to hear the heater kicking in. It will make a sizzling noise.
Yes it is possible to push start a diesel engine vehicle.
