there are many reasons why an engine could be hard on fuel, but the main reasons that are driver related are hard acceleration, incorrect gear, and braking. (the last one doesn't use any fuel, but it removes the energy built up, which has to be regained to get back up to speed)

But, the most commonly used method of cleaning petrol from a car is by driving it until it eventually runs out of petrol. Cas ussually dont move when they run out of fuel.
