Replace the power brake booster. Your losing vacume in it. ( Or )
I also had a car doing the same thing. It turned out that the wireing was melted and grounding out the power wire in the harness that goes throu the firewall. It was a big job to replace. Tim
Perhaps the alternator is not keeping the battery charged properly Check the output of the alternator with a voltmeter a fully charged battery should read approx. 12.8 volts without the engine running With the engine running readings should go to approx. 13.8-14.2 volts
try not to jam the brakes tap them slowly it might help
Sounds like to low an idle speed.
The power brake booster is leaking vacuum and that makes the engine die when the brakes are applied. Replace brake booster.
It would be like trying to walk across a more slippery surface than the ice on an ice rink. Your car brakes would simply lock up and leave you sliding forward into destruction.
Maybe when new thermostat installed a vacuum hose was disconnected? Or perhaps a sensor was disconnected and was not noticed. I would do a visual check first looking for Hoses off and unplugged sensors. Then get the car scanned (free at autozone) Is the check engine light on ?
die
If you are planning on just using the foot brake, then yes, the idea of anti-lock brakes is to prevent a loss of traction, so standard brakes would be more desirable. a handbrake may be more effective in rotating the vehicle as it is only in control of the rear wheels. i would suggest not attempting this maneuver until you have a sufficient grasp of how a motor vehicle works and the physics behind the maneuver. for example, if you go fast in a straight line, then turn the wheel and slam on the brakes at the same time, you will flip your car and die. but that is probably what you planned on doing.
a couple of things. 1: does it drive good doesnt stumble when driving if not the carby might be flooding..... 2: if it runs great and only dies when the brakes are applied, does it idle rough then die, it might be the brake booster. maybe your tcc solenoid, which is in the transmission. my 84 montecarlo did that with a new carb
Its battery could die and the engine would stop running. Or a cable plug could have been unplugged and the car would stop, the only real reason it would do this is that the car would hit a large bump or halt at a sudden stop.
I would say around 850 people die a week in car crashes in the USA.
what type of car do you own thanks
