My check engine light went on 2 weeks after I bought it (5 years ago). I did a little research and found out that a high percentage of these cars "check engine" lights go on and stay on for no reasons what so ever. You can reset it by taking off and then putting your battery cables back on.
Take it back and get them to check it.

Depends on which light you are referring to. The "Check Engine" light comes on when there is a problem with the emissions system. The "Maintenance Required Light" comes on when scheduled maintenance is required as outlined in your owners manual.

I would check the fuses. if all fuses look okay then check the wiring. if the wiring looks fine i would recommend taking it to a shop.
