A transformer is a device that transfers electrical energy from one circuit to another through inductively coupled conductors-the transformer's coils. A varying current in the first or primary winding creates a varying magnetic flux in the transformer's core, and thus a varying magnetic field through the secondary winding. This varying magnetic field induces a varying electromotive force (EMF) or "voltage" in the secondary winding. This effect is called mutual induction.
Transformers depend on the changing of magnetic fields within the transformer. Direct current would cause a magnetic field to form in the primary coil, but its the change that induces the current in the secondary field. the change only occurs if an alternating current is applied.
A current transformer is used for measurement of alternating electric currents. Current transformers, together with voltage transformers are known as instrument transformers.
no direct current is not used in transformers. the reason is that, if dc is used, there would be no counter emf to oppose it in the primary winding. since the constant flux will be flowing in the dc, there would be no rate of change of flux. as a result, the total current will be applied at the primary winding only. this results in the burning of the total primary winding. ===================================== The practical application is: If transformer input is DC, transformer output is smoke.
direct current
Transmission lines use alternating current in order to support stepping-up and stepping-down of the voltage with transformers. Voltage is stepped-up at the power station, sent over the transmission lines, and stepped-down at the receiver. (This is a simplified explanation.) By stepping-up, you reduce the current carrying requirement of the lines, and they can thus be smaller. You could not do this with direct current as transformers only work for alternating current.
That would be DC or Direct Current.
Light bulb in the home - alternating current (A/C) Light bulb in a car - direct current (D/C) Output of a battery charger - direct current Input of a battery charger - usually alternating current
Yes, an inductor works with direct current. It is called an electromagnet. Of course, a practical electromagnet has series resistance, otherwise the current in the inductor would increase to the limit of the current/voltage source.
1) voltage level up-down2) voltage level down-up3) isolationAnswerBecause transmission would be impossible except at high voltages/low load currents due to enormous voltage drops that would otherwise occur, and these are achieved using Transformers..
it would be the end of transformers
A common source of direct current would be a ________?
For electrical purposes it would be the Abbreviation for Direct Current.
That would be Transformers. P.s. transformers sucks!
