Why would my 1991 Cadillac Deville be backfiring when i get on the gas and it struggles to go up hills?

you have to go back to the basics the new motors are just like the old ones you need spark and gas the backfire is caused by your car being out of time this will also cause the car to lose power if i was you i would have the timing belt or chain checked out because after awhile they will get lose and start skiping
