Two reasons:
1. Rabbits are prolific breeders and left unchecked, can consumer pasture resources (forage) very quickly.
2. Large popultaions of rabbits attract large populations of predators, who also tend to like to eat kids and lambs (baby goats and sheep).
Just like other Americans, the Navajo people have pets. Cats and dogs are popular. People also keep and have kept, for hundreds of years, dogs as working animals to herd sheep. The Navajo have had sheep since at least the 1600's, perhaps as early as the 1540's.

Sheep tend to eat the grass much closer to the ground than cattle do. As a result it takes the grazing pasture longer to recover. In the old days cattlemen thought the ground would never recover so they ran sheepherders off their grazing land.
This is an "OLD West" Question. Ranchers in the old west used the open range to feed their cattle. They would graze on open land year round. In the summer they would graze in the high country where it was cooler and in the winter they came down to the low country to graze. When farmers arrived in the territories they fenced off their land with Barbed Wire to keep the cattle out. This cut up the open land that the ranchers had always used. Farmers also brought Sheep. Sheep will eat grass down to the roots. Where cattle will not. This also killed off much of the grass land that the cattle needed. Farmers used Barbed wire to keep the cattle out. Cattle, being stupid, would often get caught in the wire, injuring themselves and often dieing from their wounds. Ranchers hated the new farmers and this led to Wars between ranchers and farmers in the Old West.
I have never seen a sheep eat a whole apple, and they can't eat one all at once. Their mouth can't open wide enough. I have seen goats that are equivalent size eat a whole apple faster than a human could.

sadly the sheep would turn yellow and pices of it would fall out to form holes and all the other sheep would bully it for being different and the sheep would end up eating its self :( true story people! by.. J.C king of sheep.
When wolves were more common in the environment, ranchers would occasionally lose a sheep to starving wolves in the wintertime. They feared the wolf packs would decimate their herds, and so the wolf became the ranchers' "enemy." Old attitudes still hold over into today, when wolves are rare and a protected species. Wolves are very important in the ecosystem, helping to thin out overpopulated deer herds and eating old and feeble animals in the wild.

Sheep C would be the most genetically similar to sheep D, as they both share a common ancestor more recently compared to sheep A and B. This implies that sheep C and D would have a higher level of genetic relatedness.
