Why would the abs light stay on after you put new brakes on the front and back of a 1998 Chevy Malibu?

If either of the speed sensors are bad this will cause the ABS system to shut off and the ABS warning light to come on. Unfortunately, you can't replace just the speed sensor since it is integral to the wheel bearing assemblies. If the speed sensor is bad you must replace the entire wheel hub assembly. The costs involved are $85 - $90 for the wheel bearing assembly and 1.5 hours of shop time.
