In any given population, individuals have different strengths and weaknesses. You many have noticed that some people are less affected by cold or heat than others. Black people in the north can suffer from Rickets. White people in the south can suffer from skin cancer. Some people get sick less often than others. Some people get by on less food than others. Some people run faster than others. At times one of those abilities might be the most important for survival. Our ancestors who ran the fastest would do the best at catching wild animals. Being strong would help kill them. On the other hand, a person with excellent motor skills could make the best tools. The gazelle that survives does not have to be the fastest but the slowest will not outrun the cheetah. The fastest gazelle might run too fast and overheat and get exhausted. He will collapse and a lion will get him. Some people never seem to get sick. They have a good immune system. Still a new pathogen could decimate the population and wipe out such people. Their immune system could not deal with a type of pathogen never met before. If AIDS becomes more contagious, then the world will be repopulated by the people living in that part of Russia near Finland. They can not catch AIDS. A variety of natural and developed abilities helps.

It is proven fact that offspring from very different immunity groups have a better chance of survival because they more likely to gain immunity's from both groups.therfore the more different the less likely they will be prone to disease etc

The offspring can develop traits to help it survive because the chromosomes can alter and change during meiosis. These changes can give offspring better characteristics that will help them survive things like enviromental change

What are the advantages and disadvantages of asexual reproduction compared with sexual reproduction?

advantages of asexual is that it reproduces easily by itself and it has 1 parent cellSome advantages of asexual reproduction are- Large numbers of offspring are reproduced very quickly from only oneparent when conditions are favourable.- Large colonies can form that can out - complete other organisms for nutrients and water.- Large numbers of organisms mean that species may survive when conditions or the number of predators change.- Energy is not required to find a mate. Some disadvantages of asexual reproduction are- Offspring are genetic clones. A negative mutation can make a sexually produced organisms susceptible to disease and can destroy large numbers of offspring.- Some methods of asexual reproduction produce offspring that are close together and compete for food and space.- Unfavourable conditions such as extreme temperatures can wipe out entire colonies.

What are the various possible consequences of the overproduction of offspring?

The overproduction of offspring causes competition for limited resources such as food, water and space. Some individuals are better suited for the environmental conditions and they are more likely to survive and reproduce. Those who are less adapted will not survive or they may migrate to another area. This is known as natural selection. The overproduction of offspring can also increase the chances of diseases spreading in a population. The waste products of the population may also reach dangerous toxic levels. If the number of individuals exceed carrying then the population will crash.

What are the 4 key principles of natural selection?

1. Overproduction - more offspring are born than survive 2. Genetic Variation - there is variation in the population 3. Struggle to Survive - organisms with suitable variations will survive and reproduce 4. Differential Reproduction - suitable variations are passed on to offspring

What does natural selection act upon?

Natural Selection is driven by random mutations and sexual reproduction. Organisms produce more offspring than can survive. These offspring compete for resources for food and water and who can aviod stuff such as predators and disease. Sexual Reproduction allows a population to have variation. If all of a population was the same, then it could easily die out if it had a adaptation that decreased its chance of survival. With sexual reproduction, all of a population has some sort of variation. Random Mutations allow organisms to gain new adaptions to help them survive in their environment. Together, Random mutations and sexual reproduction allow organisms that can survive in their environment survive and pass on their genes to their offspring.

Advantages and disadvantages of mitosis in multicellular organism?

Some disadvantages of asexual reproduction are- Offspring are genetic clones. A negative mutation can make a sexually produced organisms susceptible to disease and can destroy large numbers of offspring.- Some methods of asexual reproduction produce offspring that are close together and compete for food and space.- Unfavorable conditions such as extreme temperatures can wipe out entire colonies.its not efficientif the parent is ill or has a disease then the offspring will have it as wellgenerally leads to overcrowdingIn Asexual reproduction, an exact copy is made of the parent. So, there is no inherited variability and everyone is a "clone." So, if the environment changes and people need to adapt, there will be no available mutations to let evolution take its course, and the species will most likely die out. There are no variations in offspring except those caused by mutations, so, if the environment changes, there might be little chance of any offspring surviving.

the offspring will have the ability to survive in the environment

How does sexual reproduction decrease an organisms chance of survival?

Actually, sexual reproduction can increase survival of the overall population by creating diversity. It is more effective over asexual reproduction.

How can two different types of reproduction help some species survive?

If there isn't another parent for the species to reproduce with, it can make offspring on its own, continuing the species.

How does an organism benefit by being able to reproduce asexually and sexually?

During good conditions, organisms can reproduce sexually and benefit from the genetic diversity that this creates. During harsh conditions, asexual reproduction can take place without having a partner and results in offspring that are identical to the parent. This means that if the parent can survive the harsh conditions, then the offspring are more likely to as well.

What are the four major points of the theory of natural selection?

1. Overproduction - more offspring are born than survive 2. Genetic Variation - there is variation in the population 3. Struggle to Survive - organisms with suitable variations will survive and reproduce 4. Differential Reproduction - suitable variations are passed on to offspring

How does reproduction help a species survive?

Reproduction does not help a species to survive, it allows for a species to survive by replacing the ageing population. Without reproduction a species would cease to exist within 1 generation. By reproducing, the species adds to it's population, which helps the species to survive for a longer period of time, because they will not be killed off as easy and will not go extinct:)

What type of reproduction enables evolution?

sexual reproduction because asexual reproduction results in an organism that is identical to the parent cell which does not allow for diversity. diversity allows for evolution. sexual reproduction results in offspring that are not identical and may contain traits that are better adapted to survive in their environment.

What are some advantages for sexual reproduction?

keeps plants life cycle alive ^what the heck kind of answer is that?!? go educate yourself on plant sex! plants can produce both asexually and sexually, and advantages of sexual reproduction are: -genetic variation (genetic uniformity of asexual plants puts them at risk for extinction if a catastrophic event occured, i.e. climate change or a new strain of disease) -seeds produced by sexual reproduction can be dispersed to more locations and grow in more favorable environments -seed dormancy allows the plant to survive until bad environment conditions are reversed

What are some advantages and disadvantages to asexual reproduction?

The disadvantages are that it is hard for a species to vary and/or evolve with asexual reproduction because the offspring really only have one parent. another disadvantage is that most species that asexually reproduce are small organisms (single celled bacteria or protists), although there are some plants that are known to asexually reproduce. some advantages include that you do not need another gender partner to reproduce, as long as you have an energy source, you can reproduce all you wantSome advantages of asexual reproduction are- Large numbers of offspring are reproduced very quickly from only oneparent when conditions are favourable.- Large colonies can form that can out - complete other organisms for nutrients and water.- Large numbers of organisms mean that species may survive when conditions or the number of predators change.- Energy is not required to find a mate. The advantages are that if the plant is good at producing ripe fruit or vegetable quickly or is quick at photosynthesis, you take a cutting from the plant and replant it and when it grows it identical to the original. Or it might be a that it is immune to some types of pesticides and other chemicals. The disadvantages are that if the plants are all the same species there is no differentiating and therefore they can be wiped out by a disease or a change in the climate.

When is asexual reproduction advantage?

Asexual reproduction is an advantage in a stable environment. This is because it produces offspring genetically identical to the parent which is already well adapted and suited to the environment. Because the parent is well adapted, all its offspring will be too, increasing their chances of survival in a stable environment. This contrasts sexual reproduction where each offspring is slightly different to the parent and therefore isn't suited exactly the same way as the parent is to the environment. Some of the offspring will adapt and survive but the others won't. Sexual is also best for changing environment Asexual is best for stable environment Asexual reproduction is also advantageous when species numbers are low, as the requirement of a mate to reproduce doesn't exist.
