There are lots of reasons. Sometimes if someone has been putting a lot of weight on their foot, a sudden release from that can cause a sudden pain. Or someone could have a lump or a scratch on their heel that's painful no matter what position you're in. It depends on what you're doing throughout the day and what kind of pain it is.
