Maybe it's just: "I'm the boss! Get away!" I used to have parakeet and I have a cockatiel and an African Grey right now, my Grey attacks my cockatiel sometimes because he's a bigger bird. (The hunter is hunted!) Perhaps that's true for cockatiels and parakeets, since cockatiels are bigger than 'keets. Or maybe it's a breed thing.
Check out the website below for cockatiels by a Mrs.Eleanor McCaffrey: In my opinion, it's very professional.
They can but i still think that the rat would attack the parakeet the parakeet would obviously poke its eyes out
If, by "parakeet", you mean any of the smallish parrots with long tails, such as budgies or cockatiels, then no, it most certainly does not have to be the same colour.
small parrots (parakeet, parrollet) a parakeet mix. medium (conures, cockatiels, love birds)cockatiel mix larger (cockatoo, macaws) a large parrot mix
There is actually no species of bird called a "parakeet". Parakeet is the general term used to describe any of several small to medium sized parrots having long tails. This includes cockatiels, budgerigars and other smallish parrots. Cockatiels can live happily with budgies although, as a rule, they do not breed as well when there are budgies in with them (there are always exceptions). Cockatiels can get along with Bourke Parrots and other birds which are not particularly territorial.
Absolutely. Cats are known to attack small rodents and birds.
It depends on what, specifically, you mean by "parakeet". The term "parakeet" is a generalised term to cover numerous species of smaller, long-tailed parrots. The word tends to be used in countries outside of the birds' native lands. For example, the term "parakeet" is never used in Australia to refer to budgies, lorikeets or cockatiels, yet these birds are commonly known as "parakeets" overseas.
yes you can. cockatiels enjoy human company as well as cockatiels or other birds company as well as the voice of other birds, just make sure that the cage you keep them in is big enough and doesn't crowd them--------------------------------------------------each cockatiel is different and males / females react different. try putting the cages close to first see if one gets aggressive. i had times where they would attack each other badly due to territory dominance.
Even though they can say words, cockatiels aren't the best for saying words , but would be better at whistling tunes. Cockatiels would be most likely to say something they have heard over and over.
A parakeet would probably like the following: a medium sized ball, a swing, a rope, and a bell. Be careful to not buy a too small toy, as it can be swallowed. These all can be toys and probably can be bought at a local pet store such as Pet Smart or elsewhere. Also keep in mind a second parakeet can keep the parakeet company, or some large toy would work too. Happy shopping! :)
i would love to
not if there freinds
