Possibly if the cat was greatly threatening and harmful to either it or it's owner(s). Though a dog might only kill a cat because of his or her size in comparison to the cat. If size is not the issue, then the dog might have possibly had an issue with this cat. Otherwise, the dog would just do it because of intrusion.

Many dogs are trained to be territorial and aggressive. Several breeds of dogs are more aggressive. Those types of dogs would also attack a child or vulnerable adult crossing within their reach or pull a small dog under a fence in order to kill it. Aggressive dog attacks are one of the most common types of small claims filed in civil court.
