Too hard to move around in and it was heavy. If a knight wearing full armour was knocked off his horse or was felled for some reason he couldn't move. To be put on a horse he had to be lifted on to the horse. The helmet also didn't allow for the full range of view so in a fight this would limit him. Finally, it was expensive to purchase.

This is a matter of historical speculation but both 'styles' of the body armour may have been worn either as a matter of choice or necessity . Personally I think the cuirass was worn by the Spartan hoplite .
Knights on horseback were like a tank to the middle ages. They had horses that were trained to carry a man in armour and to be controlled with the knees. They would form a line knee to knee and with the full armour they were very powerful.
One would usually require body armour in combat situations. Those who fight in wars wear body armour to protect against bullets and other threats. Body armour is also worn in sports like fencing.
