by donating money and it helps by giving people free from poverty giving everyone justice and not injustice and to also help the people in need like shelter, food and water that kind of things and giving people a fair chance. I mean how can you expect others to 'do it themselves' when we don't even bother to even try. That's all that Cafod's asking for. You can donate and they will do the rest of the hassle to get to Africa or wherever to help others and not judjing them by their race.

CAFOD is an organization set up by Catholics. CAFOD stands for Catholic Agency For Overseas Development.

CAFOD raises funds from the Catholic community in the UK and Wales and CAFOD uses these funds to fund development programs, which help to lift people out of poverty and improve living standards.

CAFOD works in over 60 countries across the world. And in emergencies, they provide immediate, life-saving relief and stay on to help people rebuild their lives.

In 2006/2007 CAFODs income was over £5.1 million, three quarters of which was raised by supporter donations.
Its aim is to alleviate poverty in under-developed countries.

As part of the Catholic community, and together with partners and the global Caritas family, CAFOD:

  • works with poor and disadvantaged communities in the global South to overcome poverty and bring about sustainable development and well-being.
  • protect lives and relieve suffering during emergenciesand reduce the risks to vulnerable communities as a result of conflict and natural disasters.
  • raise awareness and understanding of the causes of poverty and injustice to inspire a commitment to lasting change.
  • challenge those with power to adopt policies and behavior that promote social justice and end poverty.

Their mission is inspired by Scripture, Catholic Social Teaching and the experiences and hopes of people who are disadvantaged and living in poverty. To fulfill this mission we raise funds and mobilize action from the Catholic community and beyond, and are sustained by their prayer and commitment. They work with people of all faiths and those who have none.

Catholic AnswerCAFOD does both short-term and long-term development and aid to poor and impoverished countries. CAFOD believes in Christian virtues, particularly as outlined by Our Blessed Lord in the Corporal Works of Mercy (see Matt 25:31: To feed the hungry, to give drink to the thirsty, to clothe the naked, to visit the prisoners, to shelter the homeless, to visit the sick, to bury the dead, to give alms to the poor. {note the final one - to give alms to the poor is found in several places in The Bible, not in this list, however). The paragraph below is taken from Wikipedia:

CAFOD's aims are to promote long-term development; respond to emergencies; raise public awareness of the causes of poverty; speak out on behalf of poor communities; and promote social justice in witness to Christian faith and gospel values
