What Is a Social Work Designee?

Everyone will get old some day. For people who do not have others to take care of them when their faculties do fail them, social work designees are there to find those people help. The position of social work designee combines the fields of social work and health care. Much like a social worker, a social work designee’s job is to find people help. This help may include moving into a residential care facility. There are many different kinds of residential care facilities. Perhaps, the most common kind is a nursing home. In a nursing home, individuals who can no longer take care of their selves live under the care of the nursing home’s staff. This staff will include nurses who are trained on how to provide the residents of the home with proper medical care. In residential care facilities such as a nursing home, the law most usually requires the presence of a licensed social worker. The social worker performs an administrative function for the residential care facility and interacts with clients and their families to find the best possible options for providing assisted care to those elderly or disabled individuals. To be a social work, however, one must usually complete a master’s degree and receive certification. Due to these requirements, there is a lack of social workers available to perform the social work needed for every facility. This gap is filled by social work designees. Social work designees are not the same as certified social workers. However, a social work designee will work under a certified social worker and help that social worker perform his or her duties. For example, a social work designee may help individuals who need assisted care and their families work through the admissions process that needs to be finished before a person can enter a residential care facility. Depending on the standard of living, a social work designee can expect to make between $20,000 and $30,000 a year. Unlike the position of social worker, a social work designee is not required to have that much education. Often, an educational program that can be completed in one year that awards a social work designee certificate may be enough. However, the educational requirements for this position can vary by state.
