ibuprofen can be toxic if not dosed properly. It also should not be used in place of vet evaluation.

The usual dose in dogs is 2.5 to 4 mg per pound (5 to 8 mg/kg) every 12 hours.

You can also give your dog aspirin. (enteric coated should not be used because it will not be digested.

A typical aspirin dose is 5 to 10 mg per pound (10 to 20 mg/kg) twice daily for dogs, and 5 mg per pound (10 mg/kg) once every other day for cats.

Symptoms can take anywhere from 12 hours to several days to show. However, if you suspect your dog has ingested Ibuprofen take him to the vet immediately. Any tablets consumed must be flushed out of your dog's system as quickly as possible to improve his chances of a full recovery.
