the engine that you have in your 01 cavalier WILL NOT work in a 95-00 cavalier. They changed the type of motor that they used in 01. They went from the 2200 I4, to the 2.2l Ecotec in 01. It has more h.p. stock and the spec are completely different then the 3rd gen motors.
It will work but you have to change the top end of the motor in other words the block is interchangeable
It will fit into the 1997 because cavaliers have sets of years that the cars have same parts like for a 1995 u can fit a 86 engine because Chevy didn't change their specs. I have a 01 trans in my 96. So as long as u get the right specs on your engine it should match ur trans and it will work.
