Theoretically it could, but you would have to take an EXTREMLEY large dose. The LD50 of diphenhydramine (the rate at which 50% of mice die when the medicine is ingested) is about 500mg, or about 20 pills per kilogram of body weight.
I'd strongly advise against it. Although I doubt it would be fatal unless you were ill or weak like a newborn or elderly. It will increase unpleasant hallucinations at doses as high as 500mg so 7800mg would cause horrible abdominal pains, vomitting and your nose will feel aweful since diphenhydramine is an antihistamine (helps you breathe).
Divide by 1000. So 7800 / 1000 = 7.8 grams.
7.8
I take 75 mg diphenhydramine with 4 mg xanax, no problems...sleep like a baby
The dose of diphenhydramine goes by the dog's weight, not it's age. The standard dose is 1 mg per pound of weight, every 8 hours. For a 20 lb. dog, the doese is 20 mg of diphenhydramine. If you think your dog is having an emergency, call your vet's office. Don't wait for help from any Internet helpline.
Benadryl tablets usually contain 25mg of Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, though the dosage should be on the back of the bottle.
My friend had taken 25 mg of Diphenhydramine, and 500mg of Methocarbamol, and didn't have any problems. They reported being real sleepy. Ask your Doctor, though. What works for others, may not work for you.
