The major earthquake fault in California is the San Andreas Fault. The parts of the state that are west of the fault are moving northward. The parts of the state that are east of the fault are moving southward. The western parts include San Diego, LA, Monterey and Santa Cruz. The fault moves out to sea near Daly City. Those cities on the western coast move toward Alaska at the rate of a few centimeters per year, so we can't wave goodbye anytime soon.
The areas that are in motion include the crust of the earth that goes down for miles; the crust is much thicker than the ocean is deep. This keeps the land portion above water, at least for many millions of years.
California will not fall into the ocean. First of all, land does not just break off and sink into the ocean. The ocean is basically just water sitting in the Earth's lowest points and valleys. The land that is above water is actually the highest land on the planet, as it is untouched by the oceans. However, the Earth's icecaps are melting, which means ocean levels are rising. Yet this isn't truly enough to "sink" California and have it covered by the ocean.
No, California will not fall into the ocean. Its physically impossible for a piece of land to "fall" into the ocean. Land is not floating on top of ocean waters, its just at a higher elevation.
There's no ocean in California, but the one it's next to is the Pacific Ocean.

The area known as Los Angeles may one day become submerged, but it won't be any time soon, and it won't be due to a single incident involving one earthquake. The geologic events leading up to a submersion by earthquake would be stretched out over many thousands or millions of years.
While in California, you would go swimming in the Pacific Ocean. You'd probably end up in the Pacific Ocean, if you didn't, i think you'd have real problems. lolthe ocean that you would be swimming in would be the Pacific Ocean. hope this answers your question.
