If you do not use minor edit where you are required to do so, for example when you edit an answer to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, style and so on, you can fail your TIP mission.

The TIP Supervisor will give you a notice of why the mission was failed and you will be asked to re-do it. Meanwhile all the edits where you should have used minor edit will be reverted by the Supervisor. It is paramount that you complete missions accurately.

If you mistakenly forget to tick minor edit, simply let a TIP Supervisor know and they can sort that out for you.

Why did I fail my TIP mission for not using minor edit?

Because you have stolen the rightful credit from the rightful answerer of the question. Theft of answer credentials is very impolite in this community. Supervisors need to be polite and respectful. You should always use minor edit when you are editing but did not contribute any new information to the answer, for example, if you are correcting spelling or grammar. We look for a Supervisor standard in your contributions during TIP tasks.

During my mission of editing answers in TIP does it count if I remove answers?

No, removing answers does not count as an edit Removing answers was a part of your task in editing flags. Editing refers to changing a wrong answer to a correct one or improving the answer, for example correcting spelling. Remember, you must always tick the minor edit box when you edit an answer but do not add new information (for example, you're only correcting spelling). Failing to use minor edit when needed can result in failure of the task.

During my TIP mission of editing answers do I need to use minor edit?

Yes and no.The yes:If you are editing the answer to correct spelling, grammar, edit the layout or style, remove excessive punctuation, removing a link and so on. In other words, if you edit an answer but do not provide additional information, you should use minor edit. The no:If you are editing to add new information to an answer, correct an answer, or contributing an additional/alternative answer underneath the current answer. You should ideally use both minor and ordinary edits in answers for this task so TIP can assess your usage of them.

Is it possible to fail in TIP?

You will fail your mission if you do not do it correctly or break the guidelines during the mission. For example:Copy and pastingLinks in answersSigning answersSplitting alternates that shouldn't be splitNot correcting the spelling of split alternatesNot using the minor edit button when you shouldUnflagging questions without dealing with the reason why they were flaggedRecategorising questions to categories they don't belongAnd so onIn some TIP missions, you will be provided an exclusive TIP guide for that specific task. Even if you have done similar tasks before, you should always still read the given guides, because they may contain information you do not know and they also explain how we expect you to perform as a TIP member rather than a contributor.TIP aims to prepare contributors to become Supervisors - Supervisors are expected to follow the guidelines and perform their actions properly as expected of them. Therefore if a TIP member fails to produce a Supervisor-standard from their missions, they will fail the mission. You will be asked to re-do the mission by a TIP Supervisor. In serious cases (such as cyberbullying or promoting illegal material) you may be removed and blacklisted from the program.

Will it count against me if I fail a mission in The Initiates Program?

Every mission or task you complete in The Initiates Program is checked very carefully by a TIP supervisor. Remember that they are looking for a supervisor standard to your contributions, not a contributor standard. That means absolutely no cutting corners and making sure you read every single line of the messages and guides the TIP supervisors send you. Your progress through each task is recorded in a database by the TIP supervisor who checks your mission and is accessible to the TIP staff and the Answers management. Notes about your strengths and weaknesses are added as are notes about your successes and missions you fail. Should you fail a mission in TIP, it will be noted in the database. Every action you perform whilst in TIP counts whether you get the supervisor badge at the end of it or not. That includes missions and social interactions with other users. In serious cases, yes, a mission failure could affect the management's decision to allow you onto the supervisor team. However a quick, successful re-try of that failed mission can help you get back in their good books. In extremely serious cases such as cyberbullying, your membership to TIP will be terminated without question. Remember that the TIP supervisors exist to help you become a supervisor on Answers, they do not exist to slow you down or hinder your progress . They want you to succeed and put a lot of time into trying to help you earn that badge, especially behind the scenes. In return they expect TIP members to be respectful and complete missions properly. If you failed a mission in TIP, you can very easily get back on track by restarting that mission as requested by your TIP supervisor, performing the task as you should.

What should I do if another supervisor tells me to stop doing something that I need to do to complete my TIP mission?

Inform the Supervisor that what you are doing is for your task in TIP and ask why they stopped you. And please inform your TIP Supervisor. They will be able to look deeper to see if the Supervisor was correct to stop you from performing your task. If the Supervisor was correct to stop you, your TIP Supervisor will explain why and offer you guidance. If the Supervisor was not correct to stop you, your TIP Supervisor will encourage you to continue with the task and inform the Supervisor they were wrong to interrupt you.

How do you fail in The Initiates Program?

There are several ways to fail your mission in TIP. These range from performing poorly, doing things incorrectly or taking lazy shortcuts. We expect TIP members to perform to the same standard as a Supervisor, not a contributor.Upon failing a task, you will usually be required to go back and clear up any mess you left behind. You may also be required to redo either the whole task or half of the task (depending on how bad the fail was) to make sure you understood why you failed.First mission: Answering questions. You did not answer the questions correctlyYour answers are vague, one-worded or irrelevant to the questionYour answers are nonsense or unhelpfulYour answers are offensiveThe answer just says "Check the related link" or to check another siteYou answered offensive questions instead of reporting themYour answers are the same thing copied over againYour answers are copied and pasted from another websiteYou didn't follow the guidelinesSecond mission: Splitting alternates. You split things that should not have been splitYou moved alternates to irrelevant questionsYou split all the alternates, even the ones that shouldn't have beenYou did not correct the spelling or grammar of the alternates you splitYou did not edit the alternates you split to make them into questions rather than statementsYou did not re categorise split alternates into relevant categoriesYou did not report alternates that break the guidelines to SupervisorsYou added the alternates to the question yourself then split them rather than finding existing onesThird mission: Re categorisation. You re categorised questions into the wrong, incorrect or irrelevant categoriesYou removed questions from the right category then added them back into itYou re categorised the same question multiple timesYou added offensive or guideline-breaking questions to a category rather than reporting themYou re categorised questions into the uncategorised categoryFourth mission: Editing flags. You removed flags without dealing with the reason why the answer was flaggedYou failed to use minor edit where requiredYou did not report offensive questions to Supervisors for removalYou gave the question an equally bad answerYou blanked (removed) questions that did not require blankingFifth mission: Editing questions.Your edits contain bad grammar or bad spellingYou edited questions that were perfectly fine the way they were beforeYou edited offensive questions instead of reporting themYour edit was offensiveSixth mission: Editing answers. You edited answers that did not need editingYou failed to use minor edit where requiredYour edit was offensive or against the guidelinesYour edit did not answer the question or is unhelpfulYou edited just to add one line or full stops in the majority of your editsYour edited answer is one-worded, incomplete or vagueThe edit is copy/pasted from either an existing answer or another websiteThe answer edit you gave just says "Check the related link" or to check another siteSeventh mission: Exit questionnaire.Your responses were impolite or offensiveThe survey wasn't completed fullyThe answers are vague or unhelpfulYou didn't give enough information so we can identify which TIP member you areThe response was blankYou could also be marked negatively in TIP if you:Are impolite to Supervisors or other contributorsAre impolite or rude to TIP SupervisorsRefuse to do TIP tasksFail to communicate with TIP Supervisors over long periodsBreak the guidelinesAnd so onThe TIP team, as well as the WIT team, are both dedicated to anti-cyberbullying and have a zero tolerance approach to bullies. Cyberbullies may be terminated and blacklisted from the program and may be blacklisted from Supervisor promotion. If in doubt, always ask a TIP Supervisor. They are there to help you.

What should I do if I come across a bad or vandal question during my TIP task?

During your TIP task, if you come across a question that is inappropriate or one that you believe should not be on the site, please send a message or email to a TIP Supervisor so they can deal with it. You could of course notify any Supervisor, but the TIP Supervisors are the only ones who can access the TIP database where we store notes like "brilliant at detecting bad questions".
