Clearly yes, although some would argue that the President finally earned the first one.
Regardless the President stood up to the Republican Congress and negotiated freedom for an American war hero. Did Bergdahl earn the Congressional Medal of Honor? Yes, but the Republicans will likely block it. Sergeant Bergdahl served the United States with honor and distinction in Afghanistan.
National Security Adviser Susan Rice said, "Sergeant Bergdahl wasn't simply a hostage. He was an American prisoner of war captured on the battlefield. We have a sacred obligation we have upheld since the found of our Republic to do our utmost to bring back our men and women who are taken in battle."
Khirullah Khairkhwa, Mohammed Nabi, Mohammad Fazi, Abdul Waq-Hasiq, and Norullah Noori were also freed by President Obama. These heroes were falsely imprisoned by the Republicans and apparently hold no ill will against Sgt Bergdahl and certainly hold President Obama in high regard.
