Renji likes Rukia and they would be a lovely couple. They both hint that they feel like this throughout the episodes of Bleach. I don't agree with people who doubt this like the answer below this. Rukia and Renji show affection for each other and would risk their lives for each other.It is uncertain. Renji and Rukia were close childhood friends. But that doesn't mean that Rukia and Renji are meant to be. They aren't that cute together ( forgive me ) XD anyway, my answer is no one. Rukia is just a close friend. Nothing more. He just wants to surpass Byakuya. That is all tha'ts on his mind. Sorry Renji X Rukia fans.

It might happen. Renji does have feelings for Rukia that are more than friendship. He was very upset at first that Rukia was to be executed because of Ichigo and he took all his anger out on Ichigo, but after reflecting back on his childhood and past with Rukia, he took all the blame on himself for being weak and he begged Ichigo to save her which Ichigo geniunely promised. Renji even risk his life to protect Rukia from Aizen and refused to hand her over to Aizen for his plans. As for Rukia, Rukia does greatly care about Renji alot. She was very concerned about Renji when she could not feel his Spiritual Pressure while she was taken to the execution grounds and when Gin Ichimaru encountered Rukia, he made her extremely angry by telling her that Renji is dead all because of her. She was very happy when saw that Renji was alive and alright and she was very concerned about him when he was getting maimed to death by Aizen while she was being held by Renji, and she even told Aizen that she will go with him and begged him to stop hurting Renji. This shows that her love for Renji may be more than friendship.
