In book two of the Omen Of The Stars series Russetfur does in fact die at the end of the book. And in the new Warrior's Special Edition book the new ShadowCan deputy is Rowanclaw. We all know that Blackstar is a old kitty now and may retire soon or loose his final life soon in the next couple of books to come. But Rowanclaw is going to become the next Can leader and either Tigerheart or Ceaderheart will become deputy of Shadowclan. That's a prediction that is most likely going to happen if the series doesn't end before that.
