It goes up in the frame rail on the drivers side behind the cab. You will have to slide up under the truck behind the cab and look up in the frame to see it,

My 1996 Silverado Ext. Cab has 6.5" in the door panels as well as 4x6" in thee rear pillers..
It is beneath the cab on the passenger side in front of transmission
the fuel filter is on the frame underneath the body about the cab area inside the frame, it is about the size of a redbull popcan..
