It is difficult to answer this question based on the word Carmella.

If your referring to a Cremello these foals are generally born white with blue eyes.

Palomino foals can be born looking chestnut with red manes however, it is rare that the mane stays the same color even as the body turns gold.

Another color, Gold Champagne, foals are born red and turn golden as they age.

Again it is uncommon that the mane remains the same color as the body.

Is the mane of a Bay horse black?

Yes. It is possible to have a dark base color and a light mane and tail color for a horse. ADDED 8/7/10 It is possible to have a dark base color and a light mane and tail color for a horse (flaxen gene), but it is NOT possible for a true black horse to have a white mane and tail, or even a brown mane and tail. It can sun bleach a bit, but will darken back up as new hairs grow in. It will never be white, unless coated in snow. The flaxen gene, which is what gives a horse a lighter colored mane and tail, does not affect black pigment, only red.

What is a light brownish-red horse?

It could be bay, or haflinger A: Haflinger is a bred, not a color. Anyways- if it is light brownish-red all over including legs, mane and tail then it is chestnut. If it has a black mane and tail and maybe its legs too, then it is bay.

Is a black horse just a dark chestnut?

No... It is a completely different equine identifying color. A chestnut horse is a horse whose coat is basically red. Varies from a pale golden color to a rich, red gold. The mane and tail are normally the same color as the body, but may be lighter or darker than the body. If the mane and tail are lighter in color than the body, the horse is referred to as having a flaxen mane and tail. Sorrel is the what a "chestnut" quarter horse is referred to as. On a black horse, all hairs are black, although white markings may be found on the face and lower legs. A black horse has black eyes, hooves, and skin. If there are tan or brown hairs on the muzzle or flank, the horse would be referred to as a seal brown.

What colour would suit a bay horse best?

What colors are the chestnut the horse?

Chestnut is a brown color that ranges from a red-ish brown to a golden-brown. What separatates chestnut from bay is that bay has a black mane and tail while a chestnut's mane and tail is the same color of the coat or lighter. The chestnut, found on a horse on the inside of his front legs above the knees, is an off-white color.

Why does my horse's slight walleye turn red when a light is shone on it?

Both of your horse's eyes generally will turn red when light is shone on it despite the walleye. This is because they have a membrane at the back of their eye similar to our tapetum lucidum that light reflects off of.

What is the correct term for the color of a red horse?

Bay: A bay horse is a brown to red in color. Bays have black points, (ears, flank, knees and hocks). Their mane, tail and forelock are black. Their are many types of bay; there is light bay (where the base is a very light color), blood bay (where the base is a very red color) and mahogany bay (where the coat has a purple tinge, usually sooty and more brown), sandy bay (where the base is only brown, no red tinge), golden bay (where the base coat takes on a yellow color), and primitive bay (the black markings are very faint, and the horse usually has obvious pangare characteristics). Chestnut or Sorrel: Chestnut or Sorrel is defined as a horse with no black hairs. Chestnut is a dark red horse. Very dark chestnuts are called Liver chestnuts. Sorrels are more brightly colored, with a lighter coat color. For either, the mane/tail should be the same color as the body. Either color with flaxen mane and tails should have "Flaxen" put in front of the name. Sorrels are often flaxen.

What is a a reddish horse called?

A reddish horse is called chestnut. The horse has no black markings, and the mane and tail are either the same color or lighter than the coat. There are a few different variations of chestnut, too. Liver is very dark red (close to brown), Sorrel (most common) is coppery and bright, and Blond (rarely used) is a very light and pale red or tan coat.

What does the color roan look like and what are the primary base colors that create the make-up of the color roan?

The roan color is created when a bay, chestnut, or black horse has the roan gene, which works white and gray hairs into the coat so that only the head, lower legs, and the mane and tail show characteristics of the original color. A bay horse with the roan gene (called Bay Roan) will look a reddish-pink color except on his head and legs which will be brown and the mane and tail which will be black. A chestnut horse with the roan gene (called Strawberry Roan/Red Roan) will have more of an orangey reddish colored head, lower legs, mane, and tail, and the body will appear pink or strawberry colored. On a black horse with the roan gene (Blue Roan) the head, legs, mane, and tail will be black and the body will appear blue.

What are the 2 basic color genes 4 horses?

There are not two basic color genes for horses, but there are two basic pigments: red (phaeomelanin) and black (eumelanin). A horse who displays red pigment will be chestnut, and a horse who displays black pigment will be black. All horses carry both red and black pigment. Bay horses have a gene called the Agouti modifier. It pushes black pigment away from the body of the horse, leaving the mane, tail, and legs black. The three basic horse colors are black, bay, and chestnut. All other horse colors are modifications of these colors.
