The case is interchangeable but the output shaft is shorter where the splines connect it to the transfer case compared to a 2 WD that uses a slip yoke.
So, a 2 WD transmission case and most of the internals can be used, but the output shaft would have to be changed which requires complete disassembly of the transmission to do it. This assumes your talking about the same type transmissions to begin with. Obviously you can't take an output shaft from a 700R4 and install it in a turbo 400 for example...
You didn't mention a year or what kind of transmission so I can't be any more specific, but using a 2WD transmission in a 4 WD truck is not a direct bolt in swap if that's what you meant.
A 1996 Chevy Blazer Does have a transfer case IF it is equipped with 4 wheel drive
Yes it is.
NO... The center shaft on the 4-wheel drive transmissions are longer then the 2-wheel drives so it will fit into the transfer case. 2 and 4-wheel drive transmissions will NOT interchange.
Almost, except the case for a 4WD transmission is designed to mount a transfer case, and the tail shaft is intended to go into said transfer case... a 2WD transmission is not. They will not be compatible.
NO.... The center shaft that runs through the transmission is SHORTER in the 2-wheel drive transmissions because there is no transfur case. 2 and 4-wheel drive transmissions will NOT interchange.
Possible problems with the transfer case.
No , a 1986 Chevy Caprice is REAR wheel drive
rear wheel drive / 4 wheel drive
It is a front wheel drive.
Front-wheel drive.
rear wheel drive
I had a bad transfer case, maybe you have also
