What is the most economical incandescent bulb 10 watts or fluorescent lamp 10 watts and why?

the most economical is the incandescent bulb because the power of bulb is low only while the fluorescent lamp is low and additional the power of ballast from 10%-20% power consumed.but the fluorescent lamp is 5 times brightly the incandescent bulb.

How do you drop the 600-volt output power of a fluorescent ballast to use for an LED lamp?

You don't. The output of a ballast is for one purpose only and that is to operate the lamp that is designed for that ballast. You should be careful with high output ballasts as they can draw enough milliamps to lock your muscles up if the current is shorted through you.

Can a dimmer switch be added on any light?

only regular lights like in ur house if u want to dimm a fluorescent light u have to change out the ballast to a dimmable ballast

On your 4 bulb fluorescent only 2 bulbs come on?

On the older fluorescent fixtures a four bulb fixture required two ballasts. Two lamps for each ballast. If you have changed the tubes and it still does not work, it sounds like one of the ballasts is not working. You might want to consider replacing the ballast with an electronic one. One electronic ballast will operate four tubes. The existing end sockets can be re used but they will have to be rewired. There is a diagram on the ballast label that shows the connections. This will allow you to use T8 lamps which are lower wattage. This will save money to you in the long run.

Can you use a 250W Hps bulb in a 400W ballast?

NOT PROPERLY Although it may light, it will burn out pre-maturely due to the higher current flow. A ballast and its lamp must always be a proper match in any HID (high intensity discharge) application. The 400 watt rating of your ballast is NOT a maximum rating. It is 400 and only 400.

Why can't you dim fluorescent light bulbs?

Some fluorescent lamps (bulbs) can be dimmed, but they must be designed to be dimmable. The ballasts and electronics that drive the bulb have to be designed to work with a dimmer or they will not function properly and may overheat. When dimming fluorescent bulbs, many can't be faded smoothly from full to zero. Some will only go to a minimum like 5-20%. A dimmable compact fluorescent lamp will be labelled as being dimmble and can be connected to an ordinary dimmer. For tubes, the ballast has to be specailly designed to be dimmable.

Can you use T12 lamp holders with T8 lamps when you change to T8 ballast?

Absolutely. Only you need connect together two wires coming from each lamp holder (shunt).

What the difference between ballast and transformer?

A transformer changes the amperage and / or voltage. It literally "Transforms" electrical energy. A ballast is like a capacitor. Think of a ballast as a short-term battery. It stores power then releases it as needed. A common example of a ballast is on fluorescent lights. Initially, a fluorescent light needs a big blast of energy to excite the gas molecules into emitting photons (light). Then it only needs a small amount of energy to keep the gas molecules in an excited state. However, that power has to be of consistent amperage and voltage. The ballast is designed to do that. The electrical ballast stores energy in the same way that a water ballast stores water for stability. Because the electrical ballast stores far more power than the device it regulates requires, it too provides a kind of electrical stability. That's why you often see a fluorescent light flicker or "lose stability" when the ballast starts to go bad. A transformer transforms voltage and amperage up or down. A ballast provides a stabile power supply.

Can lamp work only on ac?

Depends. Lamps can certainly be built to work on either AC, or DC, or both. But some lamps, particularly those with electronics in them, either a dimmable lamp, or a fluorescent lamp, may only work with one type of electricity.

How do you wire a ballast that has two black wires for a one tube fluorescent lamp?

There should be a black & white wire coming from the light. Hook black to black and white to white. Then connect the ground wire to the light chassis. You need 12/2 with ground for the circuit. You do not need a light fixture box for these type lights.

Parts of a monochrome television and its function?

A monochrome television receiver can only broadcast a program in black and white. Even if the incoming signal is in color, the monochrome can only broadcast black and white.

Will a fluorescent lighting fixture that uses 4 4 ft T8 bulbs operate with only 2 bulbs installed?

The lighting fixture may have 1 ballast, or 2 ballasts. If it has only 1 ballast all 4 lamps must be good in order for it to work properly. It is recommended to replace all lamps at the same time, rather than just the one that is bad. Testing has shown that replacing just one, will shorten the life of the others controlled by that ballast. If 2 ballasts are used, each one is wired to 2 lamps. So, if one pair has a problem the other 2 will still work. To find out how many ballasts you have you must open the fixture. You can't miss them they are the big black rectangular objects.
