Yes, a quality acrylic clear, available in a pressure pack, will last for a few years. A 2 part urathane from a spraygun will last even longer.

A lacquer-based clearcoat. Enamel is never used for auto paint.
Yes, you can spray clear lacquer over Sharpie on wood, but it's important to allow the Sharpie to dry completely first to prevent smudging. Test the lacquer on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility, as some solvents in the lacquer may cause the ink to run. Apply the lacquer in light, even coats to achieve a smooth finish. Always work in a well-ventilated area and follow safety guidelines.
yes I've tried it before.
It is a genuine leather coated with a clear lacquer to give it a shiny finish

Not really, no. Many horns are coated with a clear lacquer over polished brass, and an abrasive silver polish will wear off the lacquer.
in theory yes however if you put a new layer on lacquer it may not be clear as in see through, so you better just try on scrap.. good luck.
A clear coat or more depending on what you have painted. This will chip the clear coat not your colour coat. For best protection a two pack clear that when cured ends up as hard as nails to protect the finished products colour from damage. It also will chip but gives a good protection for the colour coat. !
