No. Retaining legal counsel would not change the outcome. Either you were insured or you were not.
Insurance companies normally pay out according to who was "at fault" in the accident. A court may decide that breaking a traffic law, (driving while suspended), places you "at fault". If there is substantial money or additional traffic penalties involved you need a good lawyer to sort it out.

Reckless Driving is generally 3 points on your license and on your insurance record. This is the same as for a DUI as far as insurance goes or for having an accident. These are all 3 points. There's a joke about what's the difference in a DUI or Reckless Driving? The punchline is having a lawyer. A lawyer or the police officer themselves try to tell you they achieved something for you by getting your violation reduced to Reckless Driving instead of DUI but in reality it makes no difference and the Judge will almost always do this for you if you ask anyway without paying an Attorney. Save your money to pay for the insurance increase.
yes, it is possible to win a case without a lawyer. Traffic citations are a good example of people who represent themselves in court and win all of the time.
I tried to expunge or erase them from my driving records using a lawyer, which was a big mistake for me, because I paid so much to a lawyer and for almost a year, nothing changed on my records. the lawyer only wasted my time; my insurance went up also. I was advised to contact a Traffic removal Service and as a matter of fact, my speeding tickets were all removed, i have a copy of my records, before and after contacting using their service. you dont have to take my advice, but for me Traffic Removal (drivingrecords@ consultant. com) saved my life and for that i am grateful.
You need a lawyer. If you were driving without insurance, you were very likely driving illegally. This does not automatically put you at fault or make you liable for damages, however. There is not enough information in the question to really approach the question to any more detail than to recommend you find legal representation, so that you don't get steamrolled in court for multiple thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. I realize that you may be thinking you can't afford a lawyer, but look at the big picture and the long term - what you really can't afford is a huge judgment against you in a court of law.
