How dry must the ground be before pouring concrete?

Before pouring concrete, the ground should be sufficiently dry to prevent excess moisture from affecting the curing process. Ideally, the soil moisture content should be below 10%, and any standing water or muddy conditions should be avoided. This ensures proper adhesion and reduces the risk of cracking or weakening the concrete. Always check local guidelines and conditions, as they may vary.

How many concrete swimming pools are installed annually?

What is the function of ground beam?

Ground beams are used to support and distribute the load of a structure to the ground below. They are typically constructed at or below ground level and are designed to transfer the weight of the building to the underlying soil, providing stability and preventing settlement or movement of the structure. Ground beams are commonly used in conjunction with foundation walls or pilasters to help transfer loads evenly across the foundation system.

How do you get rid of the alkaline deposits on your concrete basement floor?

Those "Alkaline deposits" on the floor is more than likely "Efflorescence". The white crystalline deposits on a concrete surface is a result of moisture carrying internal chemistry of the concrete up and out to a surfaces where they react with the atmosphere. Very common on a concrete slab poured on an earthen surface. Moisture below the slab wicks up into the concrete seeking the lower humidity in a dehumidified home interior. This moisture brings alkali and other chemicals out of the concrete interior with it. I can think of commercially available products to remove surface contaminates, just be certain they don't create other problems for you. I use a product designed specifically for Efflorescence Removal! The KEY is; after the surface is free of deposits, the slab needs a penetrating sealer applied to waterproof it and avoid future chemical and water vapor emissions from coming to the surface again. I use a Low VOC product for occupied spaces that penetrates into the capillary system of a concrete, where it forms a solid "Inside" the concrete to waterproof and keep moisture from migrating out to a surface. Moisture in quantity may also condense under a tile, floor coverings and carpet padding causing mold problems and delamination of a flooring product. Vapor barriers or external coatings to a concrete are known to fail. Very simple to waterproof a concrete and stop moisture transfer from within!! That's how you get rid of your problems once and for all..

What side of the carpet padding goes up?

Some carpet paddings have a webbing or moisture barrier coating on one side. If you're installing over wood floors the moisture barrier goes up to prevent spills from soaking into the padding. If installing over cement below ground level the moisture barrier goes down, against the concrete - to prevent condensation and ground seepage from penetrating through the pad.

Can you put pressure treated wood in concrete?

Yes you can. As in a post or column situation. Technically you should find the "below ground" treatment grade. I have seen the "above ground used many times...

I want to put up a banister Below ground level in the stairway behind the drywall is concrete How do I anchor into the concrete for my banister?

If the drywall is directly onto the concrete, drill into the concrete and use a shield and screw or there is a concrete screw called Tapcon that screws directly into the concrete without a shield and holds much better. If the drywall is on furring strips, either mount the banister on the strips or go through the strips into the concrete.

Is loose gravel considered impervious?

No, loose gravel is considered pervious as it allows water to pass through it and infiltrate the ground below. Impervious surfaces, on the other hand, prevent water from infiltrating the ground, such as pavement or concrete.

Why lean concrete is provided in foundation?
