Eating broken glass will not kill u since it is an inert material and will not react with your digestive fluids, neither will it puncture your lungs as some ignorant persons claim. It may cause scarring of tissue within the stomach or digestive tract but this is hardly likely based on the gentle way in which the intestines treat with objects not absorbed or broken down. The scarring is usually healed once the glass is removed or expelled.

Eventually the piece of glass if small enough, will pass through the intestines and out the anus at the next sitting. If the piece is too large it will stay in the stomach and will have to be removed by a minor surgical procedure.

I wouldn't recommend eating broken glass, apart from cutting your mouth when chewing, you would run the risk of internal bleeding; and I hate to think what would happen to your rear end.

What type of injury is a cut from broken glass likely to inflict?

The sharp, knife-like edges of broken glass can cause deep, devestating lacerations, which in turn can result in rapid blood loss if major arteries are cut. Broken glass is also unstable in that it is easily rebroken and can leave shards in the body that can produce further injury. The broken glass is non-sterile, so i can easily be a vector of infection by tearing open the body's best defense, the skin.
