We have been on the moon and it has made no difference to us so far. However if we were to be able to economically survive on the moon it is reasonable to think that in an alien environment scientific discoveries could be made that would not have happened on the Earth.

What is causing the moon to accelerate?

The Earth. The Earth and Moon are bound together by gravity and the Earth's tides (caused by the Moon) are accelerating the Moon and slowing the spin of the Earth. This means that the Moon is slowly getting further and further away from Earth.

What is a wanning moon?

It means that the part of the moon illuminated by the sun, that we can see here on earth, is getting smaller. Half the time the moon is waxing and half the time it is waning. A full cycle takes about 28 earth days, the time it takes the moon to orbit the earth once.

Is the earth's moon getting smaller?

Probably it is very slowly getting larger, as is the earth. We are still bombarded with dust and small particles all the time; tons per day if memory serves. So is the moon. The moon is, however, slowly getting farther and father from earth.

Do both the earth and moon revolve around the sun?

No, the moon does not revolve around the sun. The Earth does though. You might be getting confused because the moon revolves around the Earth.

Why did the moon start to orbit the earth?

It is currently believed that the Moon was created as a result of a huge asteroid colliding with Earth. Part of the material getting out of Earth must have coalesced and formed the Moon.

What is a eclispe?

when the moon blocks the sun light from getting on to earth

What is it called when the sunlit fraction of the moon that we can see from earth is getting larger?

It is the waxing phase of the moon.

Is the moon on a collision course with Earth?

No. If anything, it is getting further away.

How does the moon interact with the earth and sun?

The moon interacts with the Earth and Sun through gravitational forces. The moon orbits the Earth, causing tides due to its gravitational pull on Earth's oceans. The moon and the Earth both orbit the Sun, with the moon's position affecting Earth's climate and tides.

Is the moon full when the Earth is closer to the sun?

No, the phase of the moon is not determined by the Earth's distance to the sun. A full moon occurs when the moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the sun, which allows sunlight to fully illuminate the side of the moon facing Earth.

The sunlit fraction of the moon that you can see from the earth is getting larger?

This indicates that the moon is waxing, meaning it is transitioning from a new moon to a full moon. As the days progress, more of the moon's sunlit side becomes visible from Earth.

Why does the moon look like it is getting smaller?

it's going fauther from the earth.
